“It was the desire to bring the wonders of the Camera and photography to curious individuals that made the biggest difference, I feel, says Kiran.”
We got an opportunity to talk with Kiran, the founder of Capture ‘O’ Graphy. Let’s look at his journey of being an entrepreneur. And I am sure it will inspire you as well.
Kiran: The founder of Capture ‘O’ Graphy

Give a brief info about your startup?
Our primary goal is to get people comfortable with Cameras and To capture moments of significance for Individuals, couples, families and businnesses alike.
Capture ‘O’ Graphy conducts Beginner, Intermediate and advanced classes in tight knit groups for personal one on one attention in order to achieve the first goal. We also provide Personal Training for people who prefer individual attention or for someone who is shy to attend the workshops in group. For the latter, we provide services of Candid wedding photography, model portfolio shoots, Product shoots and Business event coverage (etc- add/edit as required).

What made you start your startup and what problem does it solve?

An inkling towards photography in my early twenties kindled my passion to learn more about it. Furthermore, my exposure to training people in my previous professional role helped me understand my own strenghts. Eventually, the leap of faith I took became an earnest contributor to my Startup journey.
It was the desire to bring the wonders of the Camera and photography to curious individuals that made the biggest difference, I feel.
Capture ‘O’ Graphy brings together people and cameras and adds confidence to the equation by getting people to nurture their skills in handling this wonderful piece of Invention.
The vaccum of not having a simple, affordable, fun and professional photography learning experience in the market has been filled by our services.
The photoshoots I undertake is the second business vertical.
Tell us about yourself, your previous jobs/ventures? What were you doing before this startup?
I am an adventure seeker and cherish every moment I get to spend in the arms of nature during all my travels. I was more into trekking and photography was just an interest a decade ago. I used to film my treks with a handycam and thats how it all started. An interest turned into passion and eventually blosommed into my profession.
Prior to setting up Capture ‘O’ Graphy I was part of the corporate world for 5 years. First three years as a Market Research Analyst and two years in Marketing and Sales.
Where is your startup based out of? Why do you think that is the best place for you?
We are based in Bengaluru. We are a 7 year old company and are consistently rated as one of the best places to learn photography. Bengaluru, a truly metropolitan city is the Silicon city of India and also happens to house many young and budding photographers from different parts of the Nation.
We have an enthusiastic crowd eager to learn Photography and they consider this as an expression of art apart from being a hobby and an outlet to unwind.
As a startup founder, what are you paranoid about? What keeps you awake at night?
Personally I will be paranoid when I don’t have something new and valuable to offer my clientele. Monotony is a scary prospect- be it in my work or my service offering. I stay away from this path by reinventing myself and my methods.
As far as ‘What keeps me awake at night’ goes, its usually the kind if things that give me butterflies in my belly! When there is something creative and exciting brewing in the studio, sleep comes second.
Who are your competitions and how are you better than them?
I want to focus on my core business offerings and work on improvising and creating new business verticals based on customer interaction and feedback. I keep myself aware and informed of what is happening in my profession and watch the latest developments with keen interest rather than observing it from the perspective of having to compete.
What makes us different are a couple of things that speak about our business ethos-
I started Capture ‘O’ Graphy with the intention of making Photography a simple, affordable and fun learning experience for the common man.  We are a One stop to learn photography and to hire photography services for personal and corporate shoots.
-We provide a platform for an aspiring photographer either to be a commercial photographer or a hobbyist. One of our key offerings include Personal customized one on one coaching for different learning requirements.
– Photography with a purpose- Conservation of Nature is key to all our nature embracing activities and camps. We strongly believe in creating the right kind of awareness and education for a person to appreciate and thrive in nature before they decide to pursue their interest in wildlife photography.
How hard is it to have a work life balance as a startup founder and how do you manage it?
Finding that first project is the most difficult process. Once that hurdle is crossed, there is a natural boost in confidence and the ladder becomes easier to climb with each passing step. I’m blessed to have the support of family and friends and since my passion and profession happen to happily coincide, the balancing act becomes less daunting.
Have you raised funding? If yes, then we would like to know the details. If no then please tell us if you are looking to raise.
We are a self-funded company at this juncture. I am however open to collaborations in the future based on the vision I have for Capture O Graphy’s growth story.
What’s the biggest misconception people have about you? Why do they have that? What’s the reality?
Perhaps that Capture ‘O’ Graphy offers only training in Photography. I don’t think people are adequately aware of us offering commercial photo shoots. Most of the feedbacks you’ll see in google are pertaining to our workshops and photo-tours.
I’d like Capture ‘O’ Graphy to be featured for the commercial photography projects we undertake including Fashion shoots, Couple shoots, Candid wedding shoots etc. Our portfolio also encompasses close to 150 Interior shoots within Bengaluru. We are also focusing on travel films and ad films.

What gets you excited about this company?

Winning a Client’s positive feedback wins handsdown. When a client or a customer is satisfied and when have exceeded expectations, that’s what makes all the little struggles and sacrifices worth it. It is humbling and yet, strangely, puts us on cloud nine! It reminds us of our responsibility to keep the momentum and the quality of our services going.

Tell us how a day in your life looks like? Your schedule for a day right from the time you get up till you hit the bed at night.
Most days start off with a cup of green tea. An average day could be a multtitude of things put together ranging from early morning nature photogrphy walks within Bengaluru, planning for personalized course curriculum based on Client’s requirement, Product photoshoots for Businessess, conducting photogrphay workshops, interacting with fellow photographers on online forums, creating marketing campaigns and SEO’s for my business and family time ofcourse.
Occasionally there are days that are well spent in travelling towards the Western Ghats, safaris and wildlife photography and conducting Eco tourism volunteer lectures. No two days are the same and yet there is a consistent thread of familiarity that binds it all together.
Tell us about your team and how did you meet each other?
Apart from being the founder and one man army representing Capture ‘O’ Graphy, I have assistants helping me with our commercial work assignments. Most of them are students of mine who wish to associate with me and learn on the job. My wife also plays a key role in designing our online marketing campaign strategy.
