Give a brief info about your startup?

Crossword Public Relations was incepted around four years ago in 2014 with the idea to provide 360 degree communication services to individuals and organizations. Our endeavour is to provide all kind of PR, Social media and digital services under one roof at reasonable prices. The entire team at Crossword PR is committed to meet the needs of clients to enhance their brand and thus aim to provide a holistic communication plan that meets their expectations. We believe in building faith and to dig-out a viable solution for an organization to achieve its goal and thus build trust between the brand and the consumers. Our commitment towards quality and creativity is what distinguishes us from the rest in the industry.

What made you start your startup and what problem does it solve?

I always wanted to start my own venture since I was in class 11th. The thought behind it was that I wanted to be my own boss and needed complete independence when dealing with issues related to work. So since teenage my goal was very clear and I had complete focus towards it. When my peers were hanging around, giggling and doing all the things to look cool and desirable, I started to think about my business plan. As the years went by, I started developing a good business sense in the field of public relations. That’s when I decided to go for it despite of not having any educational background in mass communication. The idea behind setting up a Public Relations (PR) company is that I always wanted to give all kinds of PR, Social Media and digital services under one roof and at a reasonable price than that of other agencies.

Tell us about yourself, your previous jobs/ventures? What were you doing before this startup?

Before starting my own PR venture, I was adamant to have an in-depth knowledge of the subject so that I don’t make mistakes at the basics at the time of inception. So I made sure that I have enough and relevant experience. Thus, I worked for around 8 years in other PR firms. The advantage that this gave me is to avoid the mistakes at the starting and have an idea about the effective working of a PR agency.

Where is your startup based out of? Why do you think that is the best place for you?

Crossword Public Relations is headquartered in New Delhi and we are also successfully working in more than 300 cities in India, Middle East & Asia.  For me, Delhi is the place where I started my career and thus I wanted to start my venture here too. Also, the city is a hub of opportunities in the field of PR as all eminent companies and media houses are present here. Thus, it is ideal for a PR startup as it gives a good start for business development and media relations.

As a startup founder, what are you paranoid about? What keeps you awake at night?

As a startup founder, I always want to meet the client expectations and if possible, reach above it and deliver satisfactory results. For a businessman, there is no greater relief than a happy client. We put our best efforts to make our clients satisfied with our work. I look forward to not only gaining new clients but retaining the old ones which is a difficult task today due to the stiff competition.  I also look forward to expanding my business globally in next two-three years.

Who are your competitions and how are you better than them?

The PR industry today is thriving with opportunities. New avenues like social media and digital services have given a boost to the industry dominated by traditional PR earlier. A number of communication specialists and PR agencies are present that gives a host of services and are our competitors.  But at Crossword PR, we aim to not only meet the communication needs but aid in building the brand by engaging the correct target audience with the correct message. All this is done PAN India along with Middle East & Asia at reasonable prices which not only help established brands but startup companies to establish their name in the market.

How hard is it to have a work-life balance as a startup founder and how do you manage it?

It is an essential part of life to maintain a balance of work-life, as I believe becoming a workaholic can never help you gain the required productivity. You need to enjoy your work and give your team a good working environment so that they also can work up to their capabilities. I think going to refreshing trips has always been a part of my lifestyle as I love exploring new places and try their specialties in food and other things. As we all know ‘family comes first’, I love to spend time with my family as it relieves me from all my daily stress. I think if you are determined and particular about everything you do and if you follow a fixed routine during your day and lead a disciplined life it is very easy to maintain a work life balance.

Have you raised funding? If yes, then we would like to know the details. If no then please tell us if you are looking to raise.

No, there has been no external investment in my company. I started Crossword Public Relations as a bootstrapped venture. I believe that it is a benefit if you can fund your own startup idea because then you are free from any kind of interference in managerial decision- making.  Like every coin has two sides, I will not clearly deny that I will never decide to raise funds by an investor in the near future. If I ever think of expanding my company which will require investment of a hefty amount I will surely go for a fund raising option. So I have kept all the options open, will choose according to the requirements of my company and staff in near future.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about you? Why do they have that? What’s the reality?

Being a Founder, people think that I am that typical boss, strict and only concerned about work but I am not like that. I give my team enough liberty to work in a healthy environment. I make it a point to take them out for movies and for trips once in a while so that they can also refresh their minds. We organize occasional parties so that the team can have fun while at work and coming to office is not a burden for them. Moreover, I always try to create an ambience of equality so that they can easily share their problems openly.

What gets you excited about this company?

A company surely cannot work single- handedly, we require an efficient working staff for the same. First of all, we keep on hiring new talents as every brain has its own innovation and creativity so it becomes really exciting to know about the ideas pumping up in the minds of these fresh talents. Secondly, what excites me is to take up new challenges from our clients, it might bring a bit of difficulties but it gives an extreme level of exposure to me and my team which enhances our way to work and face future challenges. So I believe life is filled of challenges and every challenge brings its level of excitement for me.

Tell us how a day in your life looks like? Your schedule for a day right from the time you get up till you hit the bed at night.

My day begins at 6 am in the morning, I wake up do my daily deeds and reach my office by 10:00 am and then I work in office till 7.00 pm. After a hectic day of work I prefer to reach my gym by 7.30 and workout for a bit for an hour or so. I reach home by 9 and then have dinner with my family. I do watch some interesting stuff on TV like a movie or news and then go off to sleep. I try to maintain a very healthy lifestyle by keeping good eating habits and also doing exercise regularly which prevents me from early tiredness and keeps me active all day long. I even encourage my team members to exercise regularly to maintain their physical health as healthy minds gives good productivity.

Tell us about your team and how did you meet each other?

I have an HR manager in my team who is helping me hire good staff for my start up. We mostly use social media such as Facebook and media groups on Whatsaap to hire people. My current team is very efficient and hardworking with good media contacts which is a must in the field of PR. I have a mixture of experienced people along with fresh brains which is a very beneficial combination for us. Freshers update us with new ideas while experienced staff helps me to fulfill these ideas and altogether we are able to complete our deliverables before time which has helped us meet all our deadlines and in return our clients become really happy. I am really thankful to all my wonderful team members to be associated with Crossword PR and giving me immense support to make my startup reach heights in such less time.
