Design&Construct is a tech-enabled individual home construction company that takes care of end-to-end home construction needs including, construction, design, renovation and interior. The company mainly focuses on personal residential projects and projects under unorganised systems. They have an in-house team of architects, engineers, project managers and provide these at affordable rates along with the warranty. Give a brief info about your startup.

Design&Construct is a tech- enabled individual home construction company that takes care of end-to-end home construction needs including, construction, design, renovation and interior. 

What made you start your startup and what problem does it solve?

As the construction industry is growing, many companies in the industry are aimed at enlarging business by targeting only high valued projects such as commercial places, residential apartments & high valued Individual residential homes, but not affordable Individual residential homes.

Considering the untreated market, both in terms of value & volume of these individual residential projects and the projects that are being constructed in unorganised systems, we felt and created a new business module like a “one stop solution to the customers” doing individual home construction in an organized manner.

Tell us about yourself, your previous jobs/ventures? What were you doing before this startup?

I  am a B. E (Computers Sciences) graduate with a PGDM degree in Marketing and Finance. I have over 15 years of experience in the Sales and construction industry. 

Before I founded my own company I was heading the Sales and Business development at a prominent construction company. 

Where is your startup based out of? Why do you think that is the best place for you?

We are based out of Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mysore and soon planning to expand to other cities. We think this is the best market for us mainly because the market here is untreated and we are the only ones providing an end-to-end construction service. 

As a startup founder, what are you paranoid about? What keeps you awake at night?

What keeps me awake at night are the various challenges we face as a startup. On some days it is about growth and expansion, setting up the right team and on others it is about the increasing cost and how to keep up with it. 

Who are your competitors and how are you better than them?

Our competitors are local contractors in the market and companies like Housejoy, Brick & Bolt, Hocomoco etc. 

Our tech Platform and the ease of payments make us more preferable. Apart from that we have an in-house team of architects, engineers, project managers and we provide affordable rates along with warranty.

How hard is it to have a work-life balance as a startup founder and how do you manage it?

It is certainly not easy but when you have a hard working team at the office and an understanding family, you manage your way through it. 

Have you raised funding? If yes, then we would like to know the details. If no then please tell us if you are looking to raise.

We are a bootstrap company and we haven’t raised any funding yet. However, we are looking forward to raising funding in the near future. 

What gets you excited about this company?

The construction industry is a very challenging one and that’s the most exciting part about it. Apart from that, what keeps me going everyday is the fact that we have big plans of expansion. To begin with, we plan on expanding to so many new cities and eventually become a billion dollar company.  

Tell us how a day in your life looks like? Your schedule for a day right from the time you get up till you hit the bed at night.

A day in my life looks quite ordinary. It usually starts with setting up the agendas for the day, reaching to office, getting updates from the core team, planning for growth and expansion, looking after execution and finances, talking to clients and making sure all the verticals are working in coordination. 

Tell us about your team and how did you meet each other?

The core team at Design&Construct used to work in the same company for about 5 years and when they could relate to the idea behind Design&Construct they were all up for it.
