Diksha Chhabra’s Fitness consultation is a Delhi based startup founded by Diksha.
I am an ambitious person by nature. As a founder, I keep thinking about new avenues and ventures i can explore in the sector of health and wellbeing. We are aware that India is emerging as a hub for health conscious people. I believe, this field has a lot of scope and dimensions. I try to be as innovative as I can and different from my other counterparts, says Diksha.
We at Bangalore Insider had the opportunity to catch up with Diksha, the founder of Diksha Chhabra’s Fitness and to know more about the startup, read her inspiring story.
Give brief info about your startup?
I started Diksha Chhabra’s Fitness consultation in the year 2017 by launching my website which caters to a variety of customized diet and workout plans for both men and women of various age groups and walks of life. I won the title Mrs India Earth 2017 and Mrs Body fit the same year, after which I started with handful enrolments. In the span of one year my most successful program “let’s lift with Diksha” has been victoriously availed by many across the world.
What made you start your startup and what problem does it solve?
The biggest motivation behind this start-up was my own transformation from 90 plus kgs to 60 kgs. My passion towards fixing my own health issues of hypothyroidism and PCOD inspired me to get certified in Sports Nutrition and Strength training which eventually turned into a profession with the same zeal to bring in changes in many people’s perspective towards healthy eating and lifestyle habits.
Tell us about yourself, your previous jobs/ventures? What were you doing before this startup?
I hold my Master’s degree in Business Management. I worked as a principal in an international school, Delhi till 2015. During this phase, I was diagnosed with various health issues which resulted in me taking up a sabbatical from my professional career to working towards the betterment of my health. Hence, for 2 years I was a homemaker who was totally addicted to fitness first and then participated in a national level beauty pageant which later ventured into my own fitness consultation business.
Where is your start-up based out of? Why do you think that is the best place for you?
I am currently based in Delhi. Since I am married to an army officer, moving from one place to another is a part of my life. Thankfully, my work gives me enough liberty to manage my work from anywhere and anytime as the entire process happens online. I segregate my clients as per their demographical locations too to make a smooth communication, especially with my overseas clientele. Apart from this my small team of digital marketing, customer services, public relations and technical support is managed through a close connect over the phone calls and emails.
As a startup founder, what are you paranoid about? What keeps you awake at night?
I am an ambitious person by nature. As a founder, I keep thinking about new avenues and ventures i can explore in the sector of health and wellbeing. We are aware that India is emerging as a hub for health conscious people. I believe, this field has a lot of scope and dimensions. I try to be as innovative as I can and different from my other counterparts. I personally take a lot of interest in the interactions happening with my clienteleReaching a point of mundane and stagnant growth gets me paranoid as I feel that new strategies and approach is the need of the hour for any business to grow especially in service sector.
Who are your competitions and how are you better than them?
As it is a booming industry, there are many who are providing similar services but i believe my expertise, customer service and presentation skills gives an extra edge. Anybody with little knowledge can declare themselves a fitness expert. But if you are professionally sound, the work speaks for itself. I like to presume that the personal connect as well as the professional outlook given to the website, with our association and presence at big international brands has given us a niche presence.
How hard is it to have a work-life balance as a start-up founder and how do you manage it?
Apart from being the founder, I am a wife and a mother. Being married into the army, I have a lot of social commitments. I try to balance all my work and duties by planning my things in prior. I believe in delegating less important work so that I can focus on core work. Other than this exercising everyday plays an essential part of my daily routine. It helps me spend some quality time with myself. I try to finish my main work when my child is at the school and strongly believing in involving him in my work too.
Have you raised funding? If yes, then we would like to know the details. If no then please tell us if you are looking to raise.
No. not as of now. But would love to explore synergies if any.
What’s the biggest misconception people have about you? Why do they have that? What’s the reality?
I think the biggest misconception about me is that I had it all with ease and comfort. After winning the pageant the biggest challenge was to prove the title and it was more challenging because I wanted to start my own business with no support and not much knowledge about the outcome. I just knew my subject mattered and the rest happened with hard work, planning and research. During the process, I learnt how a business is run, what resources are required and learned how to improvise with time.
The reality is similar to anyone who is starting off, uncertainty, fear and belief go hand in hand. I feel elated that it turned out more than I expected.
What gets you excited about this company?
This company is my dream. The idea of exploring new avenues and the potential of this concept keeps me excited. I get nervous and delighted at the same time because I get such a positive response from people when they learn about my journey so far.
Tell us how a day in your life looks like? Your schedule for a day right from the time you get up till you hit the bed at night.
My day starts with preparing my son’s breakfast and sending him to school. Once my husband who is serving in Army and son leave for their respective school and office, I leave for the gym to work out for a good 2 hours. It’s that part of the day which gets me the energy to carry out the remaining hours of the day. I come back and have my meal and start working with my clients, my team, replying to emails and phone calls. My son comes back home and we have our meal and rest. I like to go out for evening walks generally. I do give a lot of attention to my social media handles, blogging and public relations. Evenings are generally devoted for that with my respective teammate. By 8.30 we have our meal and I check on my son’s school activities and help him plan his next day accordingly. 10.30 pm is ideally our bedtime.
Tell us about your team and how did you meet each other?
Though Diksha Chhabra fitness consultation is my baby project and its core processing i.e, operations and business development I look after it myself. I delegate things which are not my expertise to professionals. I have a team of freelancers for my PR, Social Media and Website support. Since everyone is differently located we interact more or less over the phone and emails. Since they are professional experts it becomes very easy for me to focus on my main business.
