Embedkari: a low cost online technical training platform

India is currently home to approximately 41 crore male and females between the ages of 18 to 35 years (source: census of India). This is the generation that will shape the country’s economic policies in the years to come. An aspirational lot, they’ve seen the evolution of technology, spurred by the internet, in front of their very eyes. This cohort needs to be guided, nurtured and developed into productive citizens. That means, we need better, practical education, healthcare and an exposure to how the future of working, earning and living will look like.

Who’ll help us in this endeavor?

We hope the entrepreneurs from the 25-65 age group (below too, if possible. But most likely, people from the mature age groups, because they’re more mature and possess the relevant resources to start-up) will do so. And many are.

In the realm of education, India is home to vexing problems, compounded by the lack of quality practical teaching in colleges and the pressures of finding work without an awareness about the current trends taking place in the Indian industry. Many individuals aren’t even sure of what they really want to do. Individuals find this vicious cycle tiring. While some manage to educate themselves through online resources, some manage to do so through external training and institutes, in the hope of certificates or degrees, not for the knowledge. While some, take up whatever work that comes their way.

Who can solve this problem?

Give a brief info about your startup?

Embedkari systems is a low cost online technical training platform. Our main focus is to provide a foundation for Industrial Automation, IoT, Networking and Artificial Intelligence. We encourage students and professionals for sharing their learning experience on this platform. We are providing FREE training material on core subjects with Information about the latest industry trends and job assistance.

What made you start your startup and what problem does it solve?

I noticed students aspiring for engineering do tremendous hard work starting from school level itself. Majority of the students join private engineering colleges and remain under pressure of job through their engineering. Only few students get courage to continue in core subjects. Students interested in  VLSI/Embedded field further spend huge amounts of money in training centers but still struggle for a job.

Our aim to reduce this burden by providing a low cost online training platform.

Tell us about yourself, your previous jobs/ventures? What were you doing before this startup?

I am a Computer Science Engineering graduate from GBPU (Pantanagar University). I have 25 years of industry experience with both development and customer support experience. I worked in Motorola as Technical Support Manager(Asia) for software tools . Later I managed FAE team to support Freescale/NxP Tier-1 Networking customers in India.

Where is your startup based out of? Why do you think that is the best place for you?

We are based in Bangalore. Almost all well-known MNCs and design houses have their offices in Bangalore. This is the preferred destination for engineers to start their careers and so this is the  best place for us as well.

As a startup founder, what are you paranoid about? What keeps you awake at night?

My startup is aimed for low cost so I am putting a lot of effort myself to manage the technical material and student co-ordination. I spend most of my time in experimenting with latest technology.

Who are your competitors and how are you better than them?

Generally students prefer classroom training and there are plenty of such institutes in India. We encourage students to spend on recommended hardware, online training material and technical support. This is the most cost effective approach for learning anything practically. One must burn the midnight oil to get technical skills. If you need a carpenter , his skills matter , not the degree.

How hard is it to have a work-life balance as a startup founder and how do you manage it?

One has to set rules for work-life balance and strictly follow that. I strictly follow my daily routine and weekend time with family.

Have you raised funding? If yes, then we would like to know the details. If no then please tell us if you are looking to raise.

I have not raised any funding so far. As of now, I am not looking for funding.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about you? Why do they have that? What’s the reality?

Many students and even working professionals keep sending various technical problems to me over facebook messenger. Although we have created technical discussion forum, but still they prefer direct contact. I may have the capability to debug particular issue but don’t have bandwidth. People must inform in advance about their projects and any support expectations. We know about our regular student projects and plan accordingly.

What gets you excited about this company?

I started this alone and worked for months to understand the current market scenario, training trends and outcome. Later many students and professionals extended their support by various means. I really appreciate such support by the technical community.

I have been always keen to learn new technology. I am really enjoying the technical discussion in various forums and sharing that with the young generation.

Tell us how a day in your life looks like? Your schedule for a day right from the time you get up till you hit the bed at night.

I used to spend 6-10am for Yoga, Morning Walk and another regular routine. 10 AM-11 AM for checking updates from social technical platforms , emails etc. 11am-2PM I spend on my laboratory. 4 PM-6 PM on meetings. 7 PM-9:30 PM for technical articles. 10:30 PM-11:30 PM sync-up with Embedkari student partners, keeping in mind their study routine.

Tell us about your team and how did you meet each other?

As of now, I have part-time professionals who work remotely for Embedkari training material.  Few engineering students are sharing technical knowledge voluntarily.
