Caves represented humanity’s first homes, as documented by the innumerable cave paintings, signs and symbols found around the world and caves indeed played a very important role in providing humanity shelter from the vagaries of nature. Over time, with the rise of agriculture was when historians can say with a degree of certainty that the concept of private homes came into existence.

Land is the source of all economic activity (the digital economy represents a fraction of total economic history, albeit of course it is the digital economy which is growing exponentially as more and more people access the internet as frequently as possible – the world’s internet penetration is still slightly around 60%) and the real estate market has played a fundamental role in the history of all great human civilizations including ours.

The ability to use industrial-scale materials and modern construction standards, in tandem with the world-class design is what every property developer seeks to build a reputation for. Today, at Bangalore Insider we spoke to Yeshwanth Somashekhar, he is the Founder and CEO of Encore Properties, who introduced us to the nature of his business and a snapshot of his personal routine and beliefs. Below are the excerpts from our interaction.

Give a brief info about your startup?

I’m the founder of Encore properties which is based out of Mysore. It’s a one-stop solution for all your real estate needs. We handle sales of small plots to big plots and apartments to land development.

What made you start your startup and what problem does it solve?

Initially, I felt that real estate was the next big thing in my city as the economy was growing rapidly. Real estate saw its peak post-2003. It helps people finding their budget-friendly sites and apartments. Apart from this it also helps people invest in the right kind of lands/plots.

Tell us about yourself, your previous jobs/ventures? What were you doing before this startup?

I am a BCom graduate from the University Of Mysore. I belong to a business background. My late grandfather P.M Channabasavanna was a very known class one contractor and a businessman. He bought Burmah-Shell (which was primitively called for petrol bunks) in 1965. My grandfather played a major role for the construction of Dev Raj Urs road and he was also known for his philanthropy.

Post my graduation, I took over my family business which was construction & petroleum.

Where is your startup based out of? Why do you think that is the best place for you?

My startup is based out of Mysore as I live here. Things are more accessible for me and I also have a business interest in Bangalore.

As a startup founder, what are you paranoid about? What keeps you awake at night?

Pending works definitely keep me awake at nights. I am a person who believes in making sure that work is done right. It’s work is worship for me.

Who are your competitors and how are you better than them?

I am the best according to time. I always have to do my bit. There is no substitute for hard work. Basically, whoever works hard wins the race.

How hard is it to have a work-life balance as a startup founder and how do you manage it?

Initially, I faced many hardships but i had the support of my mentor & a well-wisher Mr. Mahesh Shenoy and my late uncle Ex-Minister H.S Mahadev Prasad. Their support helped me overcome a lot of hurdles. My family has always played a great strength especially my father M.C. Somashekar and my mother Uma Somashekhar.

Have you raised funding? If yes, then we would like to know the details. If no then please tell us if you are looking to raise.

I have definitely raised funds. I prefer to keep it undisclosed.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about you? Why do they have that? What’s the reality?

When you live in small towns there is definitely a lot of jealousy, insecurity amongst people. Nobody really wishes the best for you. But, I believe we all should follow the path of Dharma. Nothing can affect you when you have the grace of god. I have my dear & near ones who know me very well and honestly that’s what matters to me. One can never grow if you let negative energy have an impact on you.

What gets you excited about this company?

I am very passionate about my job. It helps me network with the right people and the kind of returns I receive for my hard work is definitely exciting.

Tell us how a day in your life looks like? Your schedule for a day right from the time you get up till you hit the bed at night.

I am an early riser. I wake up by 6.30 am. Golf is a part of my life which I’ve been playing for the past 25 years. I go to my office by 10.30 am. I love spending time with my family. I love playing with my two little sons. I go for a brisk walk in the evening post which I play badminton with my friends. I make sure I spend some time with my friends twice a week. I go to bed very early by 10 pm.

Tell us about your team and how did you meet each other?

I met teammates through a common platform which is real estate.
