In today’s world, everyone aspires to become successful in life. The competition in the market has increased many folds when compared to the past. It has become very difficult to get a good job which can help one get the life he or she desires.
An entrepreneur is an individual who, rather than working as an employee, runs a small business and assumes all the risks and rewards of a given business venture, idea, or good or service offered for sale. The entrepreneur is known as a business leader, innovator of new ideas and business processes. There are various reasons why people want to become an entrepreneur. Some reason for becoming an entrepreneur is:
Mind it, not every entrepreneur is successful though he or she may call and categorized as an entrepreneur.
In modern times,Startups are quite trendy. There are many opportunities available for an individual, and it has become easy to start up a business. But sometimes, people have false belief that they can become an entrepreneur when they actually lack the zeal and spirit of a true entrepreneur.
Nowadays, self-proclaimed entrepreneurs practically grow on trees and one can’t go through many Twitter bio’s, LinkedIn profile or a blog post or Instagram pages without seeing someone referring themselves as an “entrepreneur” which is completely crazy. It has become a ‘cool’ norm to call oneself an entrepreneur.
Not many understand the hardships that an entrepreneur has to go through. The challenges they have to face. In fact, entrepreneurship is a way of life and has very little to do with valuations, big money, and fame. It is astonishing to see how many Tom, Dick, and Harry call themselves entrepreneurs without even realizing its true meaning.
The importance and value of being regarded as an entrepreneur need to be understood and it should not be thrown around just for a hang of it. People often get the false sense that everything or every work they start is entrepreneurship without realizing that to be called an entrepreneur you need to show some work that is unique and innovative something which makes you stand out of the crowd. Typical examples of these wannabe entrepreneurs are event managers and franchise operators. I mean, for God’s sake stop calling yourself an entrepreneur if you are an event manager. An event manager is a manager and it needs tremendous skills too. The life of a event manager is not at all easy, with constant pressure to manage a whole lot of things. But the fact is that it is not entrepreneurship. Similarly, taking a franchise and opening a restaurant is not entrepreneurship. It is pure business and you are a businessman. Nothing wrong about it. But stop calling yourself an entrepreneur. Another example that I can speak of is of a friend of mine who had a plot of land and he constructed a commercial building and rented it out. He started calling himself an entrepreneur thereafter. Seriously? Are you kidding me? If that is the criteria to call oneself an entrepreneur than everyone who has ever constructed something and given it for rent is an entrepreneur. Stop convincing yourself to be an entrepreneur if you are not.
Entrepreneurship is a totally different thing. An entrepreneur creates value out of nothing. An entrepreneur convinces a whole lot of people to join him in his dream and see the vision that he has. An entrepreneur always lives in paranoia. An entrepreneur risks everything he has to fuel his dream even though the probability of it succeeding is very minimal according to statistics.
To become a successful entrepreneur, it demands a lot of sacrifices, dedication, determination, perseverance, passion, and hard work. It is important to understand the true meaning of entrepreneurship and it’s not everybody’s cup of tea.
