We are living in the age of content.

There is content everywhere. Everything and anything is a form of text, audio and video. The way they are implemented and showcased may differ, from books, magazines, newspapers, brochures, musicals and radio stations to video content formats, and the devices range from television sets, smartphones and tablets to laptops and desktop computers. The underlying driver encompassing the entire business of content hinges on one fundamental aspect of humanity: our love for stories.

There are multiple genres to explore. From romance, crime, thrillers, drama, comedy and action to science fiction. In fact, anything that you can imagine and think about, expressed as an emotion is content. Everyone is a content creator and a consumer. Only the levels differ. One person’s content has more or less value than someone else’s depending on the status they occupy among their social circles and in the community at large.

You’re what you consume on a daily basis, right from your time as a child spent imitating the behaviour of your parents and other people in your environment to maturely planning your next career move while browsing through job portals on the internet.

Even the fashion that you’re influenced by is an expression of yourself, and forms a part of content. After all, one’s fashion sense is one’s external appearance, the first impression that one radiates across to the world at large, the basis upon which your personality is determined to some extent. It is professionals like Neetu Bharadwaj who decide the dressing sense of individuals and content makers. Their profession determines the first impression that an audience experiences while consuming any form of video content. Their actions speak volumes of the emotion played out on screen, blending seamlessly into the background, yet catching the eyes of the eager audience.

Tell us about yourself, what do you like most about your field of work?

My work is all about fashion, about creating fashionable new trends that resonate with my target audience. The process of creation, ideation and executing new fashion trends is what I love most about my work.

I have always loved dressing people up. I literally used to dream about doing so, and gradually I developed an interest in this field. When my dream became my passion there was no obstacle that could stop me from success.

Your previous job/venture? What were you doing before choosing this field?

I had started working for television serials. I worked for the highly successful television series  ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma’ and many more popular television titles. But I wasn’t satisfied with what I was doing. In the sense that I wanted a holistic understanding of the fashion business rather than be a cog in the whole process. So I decided to gain knowledge about the field and began working for an export house, learning the intricacies of business.  In the year 2016, I started working for films which I still am. I was not satisfied during the initial times but then because of my progress I am happy, yet there is more to achieve.

Where are you based out of and why?

Mumbai. We all know Mumbai is called the ‘City of dreams’ because of the spirit of the city, and as a fashion designer I have not seen glamour and fashion trends picked up anywhere else as I have seen in Mumbai. Of course, being the film capital of India helps.

If not the current profession, what would you have been?

I would build my own brand and watch it mushroom from a small audience to a mass market brand.  I want common people to wear their own styles and designs and not copy from Bollywood.

Who are your competitors? How are you different from them?

I never look at people as competition. All of them are good and all of them have their own X factors.

How difficult is it for you balance work and life?

This is kind of difficult but then I am blessed to have a family who are very supportive and are always there for me no matter what. They make it easy for me to handle both of them together.

What’s the biggest misconception that people have about you?

People generally think that I am a workaholic and more of social kinda person and it is because of the way I present myself to people. But in reality, I don’t socialize much and for me, my family is my strength and because of them I can work freely.

What motivates you to keep going everyday?

My work is all about creation. Each and every project has something new to work on which is what keeps me excited.

Tell us how a day in your life looks like?

There is nothing called as ‘fixed schedule’. if you are working for the industry, anything can happen at any moment. You need to be on your toes all the time. Sometimes, it can become quite stressful, but gradually, over time, you learn to handle it and become more and more productive.
