SheDigital stands for a new breed of digital marketing professionals

Technology has always gone hand in hand with marketing.

In fact, the day the printing press began churning out paper, was born mass marketing communication. After a couple of centuries, the birth and development of the Television gave broadcast networks the power to control the attention of audiences in a more engaging way, extending marketing beyond the sole mediums of Print and Radio. The next technology channel to harvest the attention of audiences worldwide, evolved out of Silicon Valley, first led by Yahoo and Google, and then Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, in addition to all the other online mediums like Quora, Pinterest and TikTok. The internet has made lives more efficient, busier and more entertaining (or distracted?) than ever before, not to mention the challenges and opportunities for businesses across the world operating in every business category and segment in finding the best audiences for their products or services or both.

Specialising and building their relationships with start-ups, small businesses and women entrepreneurs are a 15-member strong, talented start-up, called SheDigital, a group of professionals who originally hailed from corporate backgrounds. They are helping emerging businesses find the right audience through organic marketing, amidst the clutter of paid marketing and promotions that line the digital highway to prowl on helpless users out to have a good time.

Enter, SheDigital.

Give a brief info about your startup?

SheDigital stands for a new breed of digital marketing professionals. We are an all women team of passionate experts who think ‘OUTSIDE THE TANK’ to deliver great results for our clients. Like lady bugs we work hard to find the right solutions every time irrespective of challenges. We serve clients around the world and across industries. We work with everyone from technology start-ups to well established offline businesses looking to market online. Our expertise is specially working with start-ups, small businesses and women entrepreneurs.

We also have a FB group called the “She Power Network” of 9000 women entrepreneurs where we provide free training and webinars to women entrepreneurs. Our team helps women entrepreneurs who cannot afford digital marketing for their business.

We have our own E-Magazine called the “She Power E-Magazine” where we feature women in different fields. Every month we get around 3000 downloads for our e-magazine.

We run our “She Power Talk show” where we invite experts of different field and discuss issues related to women. You can check our talk show videos.

SheDigital was started by Ruchita and Anshika. We both have around 10 years of experience in the corporate world and were ex-colleagues in British Telecom having left our jobs after pregnancy. We built this firm SheDigital as well as our strong Facebook group “She Power Network” to provide affordable digital marketing services to start-ups, small businesses and women entrepreneurs.

What made you start your startup and what problem does it solve?

We both were working as freelancers in market research and digital marketing. Due to word of mouth publicity and references from our existing clients we started getting many projects. That’s the point when we started our company SheDigital LLP. We registered it in the year 2017 and currently we are a team of 15 people, who all are working from home.

Since both of us struggled with work from home option after pregnancy, we thought about building an organization where we can provide opportunities to all women who want to restart their careers. Since all our employees are working from home, we have flexibility of working hours while saving a lot of money in infrastructure.

With changing algorithms of social media platforms, it’s becoming more difficult to do organic marketing. The conversion ratio is much higher in organic marketing compare to paid marketing promotions. At She Digital, we believe in organic marketing. Our social media managers are experts in generating leads through organic marketing. To every client, we advise them to go for organic marketing first and then try for paid marketing. Organic marketing helps to get genuine audience to the brand and conversion ratio becomes much higher. Organic marketing is our specialty and one of the reason why get so much word of mouth publicity.

Tell us about yourself, your previous jobs/ventures? What were you doing before this start-up?

I am an engineering graduate and have completed my MBA in marketing. I have 7 years of experience in corporate world and have worked for Future group, IDC and British Telecom. I was working in market research for the cloud computing technology domain.

We started this organization with just two people, I and Anshika. Initially we use to manage everything which includes content writing, graphics, social media management, accounts etc. Since we started getting reference from our existing client, we were flooded with many projects. It was difficult to handle so many projects at a time. That’s when we recruited Ragha Sudha to our team. She became a backbone of our team and an essential part of SheDigital.  Since the work pressure was too high, so we started recruiting women who were looking for work from home opportunities. Our work from home policy helped us in getting best talent in the market. Since we don’t require any office so we started investing more on human resource.

As a startup founder, what are you paranoid about? What keeps you awake at night?

As a founder, I get paranoid when things don’t go as per schedule. Every day we have a time crunch and in social media it’s important to do the right things at the right time. I work mostly late night or early morning so that I can balance my work and my daughter.

Who are your competitions and how are you better than them?

I believe that we are competing with ourselves. We need to improve our self every day. If we keep giving quality services to our clients, I don’t think we need to worry about any competitor.

How hard is it to have a work life balance as a startup founder and how do you manage it?

Even when I am working from home, its become difficult to balance work life. The nature of job is such that we need to be online most of the time. We schedule most of our work and plan everything in advance to avoid any kind of panicky situation. We are a team of 15 people and we work on 1 to 1 project. So it becomes easy  to manage the work pressure

Have you raised funding? If yes, then we would like to know the details. If no then please tell us if you are looking to raise.

No Right now we are not planning for funding. We are specialized in organic marketing in social media so it requires lot of effort and strategize. Thanks to the wonderful team of She Digital that we are able to work in the difficult forte of digital marketing. We are planning to expand our training department to a larger scale. We have plans to tie-up with the Indian government for the Skill India and Kaushal Bharat Kushal Bharat programs for training people in digital marketing.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about you? Why do they have that? What’s the reality?

People think I am quite an extrovert when in reality I am an introvert. I practice a lot before coming in front of a live audience. People have this misconception because I do lot of webinars, live sessions and training. It requires lot of effort from my side as by nature I am an introvert.

What gets you excited about this company?

Since we provide affordable pricing, many start-ups and women entrepreneurs use our services. In past two years, many of our clients who were just start-ups have grown into full-fledged businesses. It really makes me happy that we are helping others to fulfil their dreams.

Tell us how a day in your life looks like? Your schedule for a day right from the time you get up till you hit the bed at night.

I normally get up at 5 am in morning and hit the gym by 5:30am. After returning from gym, I make my daughter (who is just 5-year-old) ready for school and drop her to school. I start my work at 9am, check all the postings, and try to schedule all my calls in first half of the day. In the afternoon, when my daughter returns, I play with her and help her to do her homework. In the evening we go to the park together and play there. After 8pm, I start my work again which goes till midnight.
