Svanik Creations: A handcrafted jewellery company

Human motivations and desires are complicated and it would be best to not make the introduction of today’s post, technical in nature, from a psychology point of view. However, the fact remains that in spite of diversity in language, behaviour, customs and indeed, culture, humans are remarkably more or less attracted to one another’s creations and ideas, leading to markets being global in scope today.

As long as there exists one creator and one buyer, there exists a market.

Beyond the giants, the conglomerates, so ubiquitous in our lives today owing to their sheer reach into all our daily lives, there remains the tacit acknowledgement of the role played by the millions and millions of entrepreneurs and creators in propping up our global and national economies, because it is them, through their creations and will of mind, who make sure that no matter what, there is always cause for hope, a belief in the future, so to speak. That the future would be better than today.

Today, at Bangalore Insider we spoke to Nandini Indrakiran, the founder of Svanik Creations, a start-up operating in the handcrafted jewellery market, a direct to consumer brand looking out to personalize metals and materials to your style. Below are the excerpts from our interaction.

Give a brief info about your startup?

Svanik Creations deals purely into handcrafted jewellery.  Every single piece of our Jewellery is handmade & made to order.

When it comes to jewellery, people are always looking for something unique or something made as per their requirement or design. Our custom made designs are inspired by customer choices.

We deal in various precious, semi-precious beads, different kind of metals and materials which matches your daily fashion needs.

We also conduct workshops on jewellery making, art& craft in Malls, schools and summer camps.

What made you start your startup and what problem does it solve?

When it comes to jewellery, people are always looking for something unique. Our collection of jewellery is attractive, affordable and most importantly unique. It is a jewellery that has been crafted and assembled by hand rather than using machines. So every piece is one of its kind.

Tell us about yourself, your previous jobs/ventures? What were you doing before this startup?

Post graduate in IHRM from University of Bedfordshire, was working with an MNC as an HR, holding around 5+ years of experience into the HR field before starting this venture.

Where is your startup based out of? Why do you think that is the best place for you?

Our start-up is right now based out of Bangalore with future plans to expand into other cities preferably starting with Hyderabad which is also my home town.

Bengaluru has the best entrepreneurial ecosystem and financial environment to start and grow a business.

As a start-up founder, what are you paranoid about? What keeps you awake at night?

Many things I would say. Improving the designs, quality in terms of service, learning new techniques and most of all attracting customer base and improving sales.

Who are your competitors and how are you better than them?

There are many competitors when it comes to jewellery. Every other person be it on social media platforms or through flea markets we see people selling jewellery.

But We are different from most of them considering superior quality, wide range of designs, affordable pricing and sustainability. Our jewellery is produced in smaller quantities, resources are used conservatively unlike mass production or machine made. Our jewellery is something that you will cherish for years to come. After all, they are made with much love, dedication and passion with handpicked precious and semi-precious beads.

“ Handmade is the new luxury”

How hard is it to have a work-life balance as a startup founder and how do you manage it?

Being a mother of a 4 year old , who wants my attention and time ,always keeps me on my toes . As we are in the early stages of our start up journey, most of the work is carried out on priority basis. Sometimes we go beyond our working hours to meet the deadlines.

Have you raised funding? If yes, then we would like to know the details. If no then please tell us if you are looking to raise.

I have not raised any funding and currently operate out of my savings. Might be in future when we plan for expansion.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about you? Why do they have that? What’s the reality?

Most of the time , when we say jewellery people think of junk jewellery or machine made fashion jewellery .  But Our products are totally different and one-of-a-kind. In our handcrafted jewellery no two pieces are  the same.

Since it is handcrafted, our products are of superior quality than machine made pieces. We also provide free repair service if any damage happens.

What gets you excited about this company?

I have been designing and making jewellery since 2016(although I did not have any formal training). I’m a self-taught artisan. Every piece is handcrafted with love and passion. There is a lot of exploring and learning. Down the line we hope to stand out and grow bigger .

Tell us how a day in your life looks like? Your schedule for a day right from the time you get up till you hit the bed at night.

I’m more of a night person. I like to work late at night as it has a quiet atmosphere and fewer disruptions, which helps in getting more creative with my designs.

My day starts with juggling between my daily household chores and handling my 4 year old kid.  Due to the pandemic our store in Inorbit mall Whitefield is closed, so now we are focusing more on our e-commerce which we are planning to launch very soon. Most of time and focus is spent during the day on our current orders through social media platforms, our existing customer base and also working on our ecommerce website.

Tell us about your team and how did you meet each other?

I started this venture with support of my husband Indrakiran. He has always been a great support and also best critic.

Besides, we have two staff (sales staff) and one social media intern.
